Some of these markets date back to the Middle Ages - Dresden’s famous Striezelmarkt has been spreading Christmas cheer since 1434. Over time, this enchanting custom has traveled far beyond Germany, inspiring Christmas markets across Canada, the United States, Europe, and even Asia, where Osaka hosts one of the largest German-themed markets in the world.

The Light of the Herrnhut Star

Among the most iconic symbols of the German Christmas season is the Herrnhut Star (also known as the Moravian Star). Handcrafted in Herrnhut, Germany, each star is a masterpiece of tradition and craftsmanship - a glowing emblem of peace, hope, and joy.

Every year, more than 600,000 stars are carefully made by hand, with about 10% shared with the world. The classic Herrnhut Star, with its 25 radiant points, remains a highlight of Christmas markets everywhere.
