We finally had the opportunity to explore all of the newly expanded areas - including the impressive woodworking shop and, most importantly, the inspiring work of the Herrnhuter Diakonie.
Many people do not realize that the famous Herrnhuter Star is far more than a beautiful Christmas decoration. Behind every handcrafted star is a story of tradition, inclusion, community, and meaningful work.

During our visit, we experienced firsthand how this partnership creates real opportunities for people with disabilities while also preserving a world-famous tradition.

One particularly moving part of the tour was the insight into the workshops of the Diakoniewerk presented by Mr. Tischer. Because every Herrnhuter Star is traditionally handcrafted, many individual production steps can be carried out by people with a wide range of abilities. In these workshops, preparatory tasks and assembly work are completed that later become part of the internationally recognized star.
This collaboration creates meaningful employment and allows people with support needs to actively participate in working life while contributing to a product with global significance.
For us, this experience deepened our appreciation for every single star even more.
Another important aspect of this collaboration is the social impact generated by the Herrnhuter Stars.
A significant portion of the company’s profits is directed to the Moravian Church community, which in turn supports the work of the Herrnhuter Diakonie. These funds help secure essential social services that would otherwise be difficult to finance, including:
It is rare to see a product where tradition, craftsmanship, and social impact are so closely connected.

The famous star is not only a decorative object, but also a cultural symbol that brings people together.
Both organizations regularly collaborate on local community projects, including the “Guter Start” initiative, which supports families with newborn children. Educational programs and demonstration workshops also involve groups from the Diakonie in order to preserve local cultural heritage.
For many residents, employees, and workshop participants of the Diakoniewerk, the Herrnhuter Star represents hope, belonging, and continuity.
As an official partner of Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH in North America, visits like this remind us every year why we are so passionate about bringing these stars to homes across Canada and the United States.
When someone purchases a Herrnhuter Star, they are not only bringing home a timeless piece of German craftsmanship — they are also supporting:
After this visit, we returned home more inspired than ever before.
And every time we now see a Herrnhuter Star shining, we understand a little more about the remarkable story that makes it so special.
We are proud to be part of it!
